(Malin + Goetz) Mojito Lip Balm

I received this (Malin + Goetz) Mojito Lip Balm from one of my Ipsy subscription bags (January 2015). When I first learned that it was included in my bag, I thought it’s going to be just one of the many lip balms I have in my stash that I won’t be using much. But when I read the description it had, I got really curious because it says: “for the prevention and treatment of dry, irritated lips“. It was spot on because at that time, I was battling really dry and chapped lips. It didn’t help that I was manually peeling my dry lips raw unconsciously (or worse consciously) at that time. The claim to treat my poor dehydrated lips sounded promising.

So I did what most curious cats would do. I tried it for one night and the result was unbelievable. I woke up to smooth lips. No drying up, no lip cracking. Just smooth kissable lips. Of course my lips remained raw in places where I unabashedly peeled off the skin but it felt as if they were healing nicely. I continued using it for a couple of days and nights more and never looked back since then. It’s my holy grail of lip balm. The search is over.

This is actually the first time that I’ve heard of this brand (Malin + Goetz). I learned from research that it’s a family-owned apothecary and lab based in New York that specializes in sensitive skin care. So that explains why their lip balm worked wonders on my very dry lips! They also use natural ingredients and make do without detergents, colorants and synthetic fragrances in their products. And oh, they do not test on animals too . 🙂

The Mojito Lip Balm is actually a misnomer because it’s more of a lip gloss than a lip balm. It comes in a plastic tube packaging and the product itself is clear with a very light scent that reminds you of – you guessed that right – mojito. It spreads easily on the lips and although it may leave a sticky feeling, it doesn’t transfer too much on your drink or on your food if you so happen to eat or drink while wearing it on. It’s perfectly fine to wear it to sleep too because some product will remain on your lips while you sleep ensuring continuous hydration during the night. With continued use, I noticed how my very dry lips remained hydrated for most parts of the day. There was no need for constant reapplication because it stays well stuck on your lips throughout the day and night. Since it’s clear and gives a glossy finish, you can wear it alone or on top of your favorite lipstick.

This is my favorite lip balm/lip gloss at the moment. I’ve since stashed my EOS lip balm away from the time I tried this on. Ipsy was also very generous in including a full sized tube of this lip balm in my bag so it’s going to last me a long time. I don’t know if this is available in the Philippines, though, but it is readily available at the (Malin + Goetz) website for USD 12.00 for a 0.20 oz/7 gram tube that goes a long, long way.

Should you try this? If you’re like me who have problematic dry lips, I say you should! It’s really worth it! That’s it for now. Thanks for reading!
