Review: Pür Minerals 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup

One of my not-so-recent discoveries while experimenting on “new” brands is this mineral powder foundation that I am absolutely loving the past few months. I loved it so much that when I discovered that it was no longer being sold at Rustan’s, I immediately turned to online shopping to stock up on my new favorite.

The product? Pür Minerals’ 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup.

I first got to know this product when sometime last year during an unexpected spree at Rustan’s Essences in Robinsons Place Manila, a beauty consultant salestalked me into trying and actually buying a Pür Minerals Start Now! set which was being sold at an unbelievable sale price of PHP 500  from its original price of PHP 1,950. Being a real cheapskate that I was, I immediately bought one even if I still have my PAC two-way cake powder at that time. The Start Now! kit consists of a 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup (powder foundation), a Mineral Glow powder (bronzer), a universal marble powder that can be used over eyes, lips and cheeks and a chisel brush that you use to create the perfect application of your powder. The kit promises to give you a one-minute makeup miracle where all your skin problems and imperfections will be addressed with a few strokes of your hand. Honestly, I did not really believe the saleslady when she was doing a demo on how to use it on my face. I didn’t also get to appreciate the “miraculous” effect it had on my blemished skin during the demo. It was really the price tag that pushed me to buying one. 😛

I didn’t immediately got to use it not until I ran out of powder foundations to use that I decide to try the one-minute miracle. And oh boy, it did deliver the results they promised! In an instant, I had a new favorite. I loved it so much that when I ran out of the 4-in-1 mineral makeup, I went back to buy a whole pan – only to discover that it was already phased out at all Rustan’s branches. As I said earlier, I ended up buying online straight from their official website – not just one but two full pans! I’m officially a fangirl!

The full product comes in a sturdy silver/transparent round compact with a built-in mirror. It doesn’t come with a sponge because it’s really meant to be used with the special chisel brush that they sell separately, or, in my experience, may be used with any foundation/powder brush that you have in your stash. Either way, you should use this with a brush to achieve a flawless, even finish.

This powder, foundation, concealer and sunblock is best applied using the separately sold chisel brush.

The powder is finely-milled and gets picked up easily by a brush. To use, lightly dust the brush all over your face in circular motions. It settles in lightly but you can layer it to achieve the kind of coverage that you want. It easily covers my pimples, dark spots and undereye circles even when used alone. In fact, one time that I ran late to work, I put on this powder while riding a tricycle with no concealers underneath. I applied a light blush and put on my favorite lipstick. When I got to work, one of my workmates complimented how I looked fresh and blooming! And that’s all thanks to the great coverage of this powder foundation.

The one-minute makeup miracle promise is easily achieved by this pressed mineral makeup because it’s actually four products rolled into one great compact. It’s a foundation, powder, concealer and sunblock (SPF 15 provided by Titanium Oxide) and comes with its exclusive formulation of age-defying Ceretin complex that not only covers and corrects imperfections but also claims to prevent and interrupt your skin problems. I don’t know about the skincare part of this powder but I did notice that I breakout less often since I started using it. But then again I also got rid myself of toxic government-hospital duties and has been using topical tretinoin recently so, it’s probably safe to say that the improvement I noticed is a combination of many, many factors. 🙂

Lasting power is also good. I naturally get oily in the T-zone and cheeks as the day wears out but I noticed how the oiliness is cut by half when I use this as my foundation base. I rarely retouch in the afternoon unless I’m being really OC with the little amount of shine that stares back at me. 🙂

This 4-in-1 Pressed Mineral Makeup Foundation with Skincare Ingredients comes in 11 colors. I am on the light-skin side and I use Blush Medium (third lightest shade). It costs USD 27 (or PHP 1198.92 at the current exchange rate) per compact that contains 0.28 oz/8 grams of mineral powder. Unfortunately, I haven’t come across any local seller that’s carrying this brand and I personally resort to buying online from their official website and having it shipped to the Philippines. I know it’s quite expensive if you’ll compute for the total cost but I assure you that it’s worth the money and the hassle. I mean, I’m a cheapskate but I’m actually willing to spend money for this so it’s probably that good. 🙂

Anyway, have you tried this product or anything else from the Pür Minerals line? What is your holy grail for foundation/powder these days? Do leave a comment below.
