When I check my email, I usually just skim through the subjects and go on my way. I don’t regularly read my email since most often, what I receive are notifications from various subscriptions I have, not unless I am expecting an important mail or unless I have nothing else to do. So, naturally, I didn’t read this email from The Body Shop until a few days later when I browsed through my inbox again. What was written inside caught me by surprise.
This is what it reads:
For the past 7 years, The Body Shop has offered the best possible rewards and benefits to our valued members. However, our Love Your Body program will end on December 2, 2014.
As an existing member, you will continue to enjoy our program rewards and benefits including redemption of unused points and vouchers within 30 days from this date of notice, or until December 2, 2014.
We thank you for being with us for the past years. We look forward to your continued support.
We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.
As always, if you have any questions about this initiative, please email us at lyb(at)the-body-shop.com.ph.

This notice came as a surprise because just last week, I dropped by one of their branches and even used one of the vouchers that came with my membersehip and the sales assistants did not mention anything about the cancellation of their Love Your Body program. It’s either this is a hoax (which is highly unlikely) or that this decision came so suddenly that it has not yet been disseminated to the lower ranks in the company as well. I tried looking around on their facebook, instagram and twitter accounts but there’s no news on this anywhere. Makes me wonder, why make such a silent exit? I mean, seriously, on this day and age, not even a facebook post, an SMS or a twitter tweet?
The cancellation of the program also came at such short notice. I don’t think this was a decision that has been up in the air for months. I even had renewed my membership last May which is still good until next year. Anyway, at least I was able to use up all of my vouchers and I suggest that if you’re reading this and you’re a member of the Love Your Body program to do so as well. Remember, they’ll stop honoring your vouchers beyond December 2, 2014. That’s just a few weeks from now. I guess one of the reasons why they’re axing this program is because it did not entice more customers to patronize and be loyal to their company. Have you noticed how The Body Shop is no longer as popular now than they were some few years back? It’s probably because there’s just too many competition nowadays with the likes of Yves Rocher (France) and the many Korean beauty companies sprouting out of the Philippine market like mushrooms these days.
I don’t know if it’s just the OC in me but why choose such an odd date to cancel a service? I mean, it falls on a Tuesday and it’s right smack on the second day of the month and the week. Makes you wonder. *rolls eyes*
Anyway, I hope they’ll start a new and even better loyalty program soon. I just love their products and keep on coming back for more! What about you? How do you feel about this? Care to share at the comments section below.
